Structural Calculations for Residential Steelwork
Where structural calculations are required for residential steelwork, Titan Forge can organise them as part of the fabrication process.
Calculations help confirm the correct steel sizes, load requirements, bearings, supports and connection details, giving your builder, architect and Building Control the information needed before the steelwork is manufactured and installed.
A supporting service on the way to fabrication
When structural calculations may be required
Building Control generally expects calculations wherever new structural steel is introduced into a domestic project — extensions, loft conversions, remodelling and new openings. If the project has an engineer, they'll usually have this in hand; where the steel isn't yet specified, we can organise the calculations so fabrication isn't held up.
Calculations for residential steel beams and frames
Beam and column sizing, load assessments, bearings and padstones, and connection details for the beams and frames we fabricate — from a single beam through to goalpost frames and package steelwork for extensions and renovations.
Supporting Building Control requirements
The calculations are supplied in a format your Building Control officer or approved inspector can check and approve, and we coordinate any queries raised so the approval isn't left hanging between parties.
Coordinating calculations with fabrication
Because the calculations are organised alongside the fabrication, the approved specification passes straight to the workshop — no re-quoting between a separate designer and fabricator, and no details lost in the handover.
Working from existing engineer's calculations
If your engineer has already produced calculations or a steel schedule, we work directly from those — this page is for projects where that piece is still missing.
What information is needed
- Architectural drawings or plans of the affected areas
- A description of the structural work the project involves
- Photos of the relevant walls, openings or roof space, if available
- The site postcode and your programme
What happens after the calculations are complete
The specification goes to Building Control for approval and, in parallel, to our workshop for pricing — so once approved, the steelwork can be fabricated and delivered without a second round of paperwork.
Make a quick enquiry
Send us an enquiry for a fast, friendly response. Attach any plans or drawings you have, along with photos of the relevant walls, openings or roof space if available.
Frequently asked questions
We already have engineer's calculations — do we need this?
No — send them over with the drawings and we'll quote for fabrication directly. This service is for projects where the calculations are still outstanding.
Can calculations and fabrication be quoted together?
Yes, and it's usually the most efficient route: one quote covering the calculations, the fabricated steelwork and delivery, with the specification confirmed in between.
What if Building Control raises queries?
Queries are coordinated as part of the process — between the calculations, your builder or architect and the inspector — so they're resolved before fabrication begins.
How long do calculations take?
It depends on the scope — a single beam is quick, a full extension package takes longer. Send the project details and we'll confirm timescales against your programme.
